Guide · Before the tow

Prepare your vehicle for towing

A tow goes more smoothly when the operator knows exactly where the vehicle is, where it is going and what condition it is in. Gather the details below, then call TP Towing on 0469 929 029 or send an enquiry.

This is a checklist of information to give, not a guide to loading or securing a vehicle yourself. Leave that to the operator.

What to have ready before you call

These are details only you can give us. With them we can say whether the job fits and give an accurate quote.

Your towing checklist

Tick each item once you have it ready.

  1. Street address, or the road, nearest cross street and direction. Note any access limits: low roof, gate, narrow driveway or slope.

  2. The full address, and whether someone will be there or the vehicle can be left.

  3. Make, model and any modifications, such as lowering or a body kit.

  4. Does it start? Do all the wheels roll freely? Does the steering turn? Is the handbrake or transmission stuck?

  5. Whether the keys are available and will be with the vehicle.

  6. When it needs to move, and the names and phone numbers of the person handing over and the person receiving it.

Follow the operator’s instructions

Any specific handover steps are confirmed with you for the job. Costs are explained in Towing costs and quote details.

How a prepared enquiry moves forward with TP Towing.

  1. Step 1: Send or read out the checklist

Call 0469 929 029 or email the details, and give the details above.

  2. Step 2: We check fit

We confirm whether the vehicle, pickup access and destination suit the job, or tell you if they do not.

  3. Step 3: Quote and timing

You receive a quote for that specific job and our current availability.

  4. Step 4: You accept

The tow is booked only when you accept and we confirm by phone. Any handover instructions are given then.

Preparation questions

The exact pickup location and the destination, then the make, model and condition. That is enough to request a towing quote. For tray transport, mention any lowering or modifications: see Tilt tray and flatbed towing.

Say whether the keys are available, and whether any wheel does not turn, the steering is locked or the car is stuck in park or gear. These change how the vehicle can be moved, so tell us before the job is quoted.

Agree who will be at the pickup and the destination, and have their phone numbers ready. Ask whether to leave the keys with the vehicle and whether to remove personal items. For a longer trip, see Long-distance towing.
